"you should see me in a crown" is a single by Billie Eilish from her debut album, WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?. It is the fourth track and the album and was released on July 18th, 2018 after being premiered on BBC Radio 1 with Annie Mac.

Cross-references[]

  • The line "Fell for these ocean eyes" is a direct reference to Ocean Eyes.
  • Possible reference: "The silence is my favorite sound" might be a reference to The Sound Of Silence.

Theme[]

Lyrically the song is about being a ruthless monarch and dominating the world. The theme could also be interpreted to mean taking control in a relationship, and not letting others have power over you.

Background[]

In an interview with Annie Mac, Billie stated that the song was inspired by the TV show Sherlock. "We wrote this song 'cause of Sherlock, actually, 'cause there's a scene where Jim Moriarty says, "You should see me in a crown" and me and my brother were like "hey that's jiggy as fuck". Then we just sorta made the song about being jiggy I guess, and you should see me in a crown, so there it is."

Synesthetic Perception[]

#e4e6e6
According to the Billie Eilish Experience, you should see me in a crown is perceived to be a Silver in Billie's synesthesia.

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
Bite my tongue, bide my time
Wearing a warning sign
Wait 'til the world is mine
Visions I vandalize
Cold in my kingdom size
Fell for these ocean eyes

[Chorus]
You should see me in a crown
I'm gonna run this nothing town
Watch me make 'em bow
One by one by one
One by one by
You should see me in a crown
Your silence is my favorite sound
Watch me make 'em bow
One by one by one
One by one by one

[Verse 2]
Count my cards, watch them fall
Blood on a marble wall
I like the way they all scream
Tell me which one is worse
Living or dying first
Sleeping inside a hearse
I don't dream
You say, "Come over, baby
I think you're pretty"
I'm okay, I'm not your baby
If you think I'm pretty

[Chorus]
You should see me in a crown
I'm gonna run this nothing town
Watch me make 'em bow
One by one by one
One by one by
You should see me in a crown
Your silence is my favourite sound
Watch me make 'em bow
One by one by one
One by one by one

[Chorus]
Crown
I'm gonna run this nothing town
Watch me make 'em bow
One by one by one
One by one by one
You should see me in a crown
(You should see me, see me)
Your silence is my favourite sound
(You should see me, see me)
Watch me make 'em bow
One by one by one
One by one by one
